The Mission Statement of the Lavonia Police Department is to protect and serve the City of Lavonia through dedication, professionalism, and community-oriented policing by using active cooperation as well as effective, proven standards of excellence with a positive, progressive attitude.

Employment with the Lavonia Police Department - Accept the Challenge

Applications are taken, in person only, at the Police Department during normal business hours. Applicants must be at least twenty years of age and are required to furnish a copy of their valid driver's license,  high school or GED diploma, DD214, if applicable, and police academy certificate, if applicable. After satisfactory completion of the application process, each applicant is required to successfully complete a physical agility test, polygraph examination, oral interview, and is then subjected to a thorough background investigation. After the above steps are successfully completed, each applicant must undergo psychological testing, a physical examination, and drug screen (blood testing and urinalysis) to comply with our "Drug Free Workplace" policy. An interview is then scheduled with the Chief of Police.

TRAINING

Officer candidates from the Lavonia Police Department attend Basic Mandate Training at a Regional Police Academy. All expenses (including salary) are paid by the Department while the candidate is in the Academy. Intermediate, advanced, and specialized training is available at Regional Academies and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.
