Captain Brooks Moorhead  

          Brooks began his law enforcement career with the Georgia Southern University Department of Public Safety in 1994 as a service officer.  He began working with the Carrollton Police Department in 1995 and graduated from the North West Georgia Law Enforcement Training Center located in Cave Springs, Georgia in 1996. He has since completed almost 1400 hours in intermediate and advanced training.   Brooks continued his career with the Hartwell Police Department in June, 2000 where he reached the rank of corporal and began working with the Lavonia Police Department in July, 2001.  Brooks was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October of 2002 where he served as the second shift supervisor.  In March 2004, Brooks was promoted to Lieutenant assuming command of the uniform patrol division. In July of 2006 Brooks was promoted to Captain, commander of the uniform patrol division.

          Brooks graduated from Hart County High School in 1993 and continued his education at Georgia Southern University.  He is currently attending the Command College, a joint effort between Columbus State University and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

          In October, 2001 Brooks helped to form the Lavonia Police Explorer Post 313 where he still serves as advisor and on the Board of Directors.  In 2002 he built the Lavonia PD website and still serves as webmaster.  In 2003 he received specialized training and was named the department's certification manager.   Brooks is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and the Peace Officer's Association of Georgia.
